Define completion for each obligation
“The order is done” is too broad when a file is ready today and a parcel leaves tomorrow. Define a digital completion condition, such as the correct final guide being delivered, and a physical condition based on your actual shipping process. Do not use a download event as a substitute for carrier evidence.
QuickAttach documents optional Shopify fulfillment. That makes the send settings consequential for mixed orders. Inspect how your store represents the relevant line items and test the effect of a digital send on the physical item, warehouse queue, and customer messages. Do not infer behavior from the app's general description.
A fictional two-track order
Demo order 5151 contains a handmade display stand and a custom placement guide. The guide is ready before the stand is packed. The merchant wants to deliver the guide while keeping parcel dispatch pending. A separate logistics record later identifies the real shipment.
| Obligation | Ready when | Record |
|---|---|---|
| Custom guide | Checked against this stand's specification | File revision and digital delivery event |
| Physical stand | Packed and processed by shipping team | Actual dispatch and tracking information |
| Combined customer update | Both states confirmed | Clear message describing each state |
Rehearse the split before rollout
- Create a synthetic mixed order matching your real product structure.
- Record its starting payment and fulfillment states.
- Attach a harmless demonstration guide.
- Inspect the available fulfillment option and send using the intended setting.
- Check the physical item's state and any connected shipping queue.
- Review the customer's email and enabled order-page surfaces.
This is a proposed test, not a completed result. If the send changes the physical state unexpectedly, pause rollout and resolve the configuration rather than accepting a misleading status.
Communicate in two sentences
A suitable fictional update is: “Your custom placement guide is ready to download. Your display stand is still being prepared for dispatch; parcel tracking will follow through our shipping process.” That wording tells the customer what is available now without implying a parcel has moved.
Use the walkthrough for the digital stage and support for app-specific fulfillment questions. Keep staff ownership of the two obligations visible until each has been completed.
