Decide whether the purchase adds or replaces
An add-on can be a new appendix, a supplementary analysis, or a revised combined package. Clarify which output the buyer purchased. “Extra report” should not become an unannounced rewrite of the original asset just because combining files is easier for production.
Keep the new order as the commercial reference for the add-on. Record the original order and the relationship in an appropriate internal note or tracker. Avoid copying sensitive content between records when a reference is enough.
A fictional order relationship
Original order: DEMO-5187-A
Output: workspace summary v01
State: delivered
Add-on order: DEMO-5187-B
Purchased output: lighting appendix v01
Depends on: workspace summary from DEMO-5187-A
Delivery: separate appendix on the add-on order
Original output: remains unchanged
The example is an operational document relationship, not professional lighting advice. It shows how support can trace the appendix without guessing which old report it supplements.
Make dependencies understandable
Put the original report reference inside the add-on when the customer needs both. Identify whether the appendix stands alone and which revision of the original it assumes. If the original is later corrected, review whether the add-on remains consistent.
If the buyer instead purchases a consolidated replacement, define the package contents and change summary. Test how replacing the original order's asset affects earlier links before using that approach; do not infer behavior from the word “replacement.”
Release checklist
- Confirm the new order and add-on scope.
- Identify the correct original order and report revision.
- Check the add-on's internal references and personalized content.
- Attach the add-on to the intended new order item.
- Explain whether it supplements or replaces earlier material.
- Record any necessary follow-up across the two orders.
Write the delivery message plainly
Your lighting appendix for order 5187-B is ready. It supplements the workspace summary supplied under order 5187-A and does not replace that report. Keep both documents together when reviewing the package.
Use the QuickAttach order workflow for the new delivery. The app does not infer report dependencies or automatically merge the documents. Those decisions belong to production and the agreed purchase scope.
