Choose the file before choosing the link
Check that the Dropbox destination contains the final customer deliverable and no unrelated materials. A production folder often contains drafts, source assets, and files for other orders. Create a deliberate delivery package instead of sharing whichever folder is easiest to find.
Read Dropbox's current link-sharing instructions. The provider distinguishes sharing options and edit or view access. Use the permissions required by the purchase; a customer receiving a completed export generally does not need to edit the merchant's original.
Confirm the actual recipient experience
Available controls can depend on the Dropbox account and sharing configuration. Do not promise password protection, expiry, or other restrictions unless they are available and tested in the chosen setup. A view-only workflow and a restricted-person workflow are not automatically the same thing.
Check whether the buyer can preview, download, and navigate the package as intended. A usable preview is not sufficient if the sale includes downloadable source assets. Conversely, a successful download does not show that specialized software can open those assets.
A fictional buyer-access rehearsal
Use demo order 5163 and a harmless package named 5163-demo-package-v02. Create or select a controlled recipient identity where the chosen sharing model requires it. The rehearsal below is proposed, not reported as completed.
| Step | Evidence to record |
|---|---|
| Inspect destination | Only manifest-listed demonstration files |
| Set sharing | Intended access model and role |
| Open as recipient | Sign-in prompts and visible content |
| Download if promised | File obtained and opened |
| Send order link | Correct destination in delivery message |
Keep responsibilities explicit
The QuickAttach flow associates a file or external link with an order item. It does not imply Dropbox OAuth integration, file copying, or automatic permission management. Maintain the hosted destination and assign someone to answer access requests.
Tell the buyer that the delivery opens Dropbox, what the package is called, and how to report a problem. If the link later fails, investigate the Dropbox file and sharing configuration before assuming that another delivery email will solve it. Preserve the agreed master independently of the customer-facing link.
