ZIP or Individual Files: Package a Custom Digital Delivery

Choose packaging around the customer’s next action. A ZIP keeps a related set together; separately accessible files can be easier to preview or replace. Verify how your delivery structure supports the choice before promising several attachments to one item.

Packaging is a customer-experience decision

The number of Shopify line items and the number of files in a package answer different questions. A design package may be one purchased item containing several outputs. QuickAttach's documented file-or-link association should not be interpreted as a promise of multiple independent file slots for that one item.

You can evaluate a tested archive or an external destination that exposes the agreed files. The choice depends on how the buyer uses the result, not just how the merchant stores it.

A fictional invitation order

Demo order 5164 includes a print PDF, a screen image, and instructions. If the buyer plans to send the whole set to a designer, a ZIP with a README may be convenient. If the buyer only needs to view the invitation on a phone, an externally hosted destination exposing clearly labeled files may be easier. Neither option is universally better.

Run the opening test

  1. Give a test recipient only the delivery message, not a verbal explanation.
  2. Ask them to find the file they would print or play first.
  3. Observe whether they can save all purchased outputs.
  4. Ask them to identify the package revision and support route.
  5. Record where instructions or naming caused confusion.

This is a proposed usability exercise. Do not infer that every phone handles archives identically or that every external host provides a suitable preview.

Measure the finished package against the upload guidance, then use the order delivery workflow appropriate to the chosen asset or link. Packaging should reduce the customer's uncertainty, not merely reduce the sender's number of clicks.
