A bonus changes the delivery plan
An existing customer may already have a useful download associated with the order. Adding a bonus is not simply a repeat of the original send: you must preserve the original entitlement, explain what is new, and confirm the supported file structure.
QuickAttach documents files or links per order item, but that alone is not evidence of several independent file slots on one item. Check the current interface and ask support when the behavior is unclear. Do not overwrite a previously delivered file merely to make room for a bonus.
Choose a supported package
| Requirement | Option to investigate | Important check |
|---|---|---|
| Original and bonus stay together | A combined package containing both | Customer can open the package and identify each file |
| Bonus has a distinct item association | A supported order-item structure | Order administration and delivery behavior are understood |
| Materials already live externally | A controlled external destination | Only intended content is exposed |
These are design options to validate, not instructions to alter a live order blindly. Adding or changing order items can affect other store processes. A folder link also introduces provider permissions and availability responsibilities.
Fictional example: a printable legend
A map maker has delivered a custom map on order 4110 and wants to offer a printable legend as a bonus. The merchant first checks whether the supported delivery structure can keep both downloads available. If not, they consider a clearly named package with the original map and legend, then test how updating the association affects an earlier email link.
The accompanying message says what was added and whether the customer should download a new package. It does not imply the map was corrected when the only change is an extra reference sheet.
Run this bonus scenario with harmless files
- Deliver an original test document and save its customer-facing path.
- Apply the proposed bonus packaging through supported controls.
- Open the old path and the new delivery message separately.
- Confirm what each path now provides and whether the original remains accessible.
- Check that no unrelated order is affected.
- Write customer instructions that match the observed behavior.
This protocol has not been executed for your store. If you cannot establish how the original download will behave, pause the bonus change and resolve that question. A small extra benefit should not make an already purchased deliverable harder to retrieve.
