Deliver Custom 3D Model Files Sold on Shopify

Package the model with its required supporting files and clear instructions, then test the exact archive or external link. File delivery does not confirm that a model is printable, manufacturable, or compatible with every application.

Define the receiving workflow

A model intended for visualization differs from one intended for fabrication. Ask the buyer which application or production service will receive it and which formats they requested. Record units and any agreed scale in the manifest. Do not choose those details from the file extension alone.

Before packaging, inspect dependencies in the originating software. A model may reference textures or other files stored elsewhere on the designer's computer. A package that opens correctly on that computer can still arrive incomplete at the customer's machine.

A synthetic delivery inventory

Fictional order 5139 is for a decorative display model used in a mock retail scene. It is not an engineering drawing or a safety-critical part. The inventory below is a proposed package structure.

5139-display-model-v03/
  README.txt
  model/ [agreed model export]
textures/ [only referenced assets included in the sale]
  preview/ display-preview-v03.png

The README should identify the model revision, intended use, agreed application or format, units, and any assets intentionally excluded. Include only files you are entitled to distribute. Do not casually bundle licensed source libraries with a customer export.

Test the transport separately from the model

The QuickAttach support page asks merchants to keep uploads under 100 MB. Measure the finished package, not just the main model file. If it is too large or its format is unsupported, assess a tested archive or a hosted link rather than promising a higher app limit.

Use a fresh folder or separate test environment to open the extracted package. Then run the intended application checks with the appropriate specialist. These are different acceptance questions: “Did all bytes arrive?” and “Does the model meet the customer's production requirements?”

Proposed ZIP delivery test

  1. Create an archive containing only the manifest-listed files.
  2. Record its size, revision, and item reference.
  3. Attach it to a synthetic order if the upload is accepted.
  4. Download it as the intended test recipient.
  5. Extract it and compare the inventory with the manifest.
  6. Open it in the agreed receiving software and record actual findings.

No test results are asserted here. If using an external link instead, add a permissions test and document who maintains the hosted asset. A delivery record must not be described as a certification of model quality or manufacturing safety.
