Define the boundary of the editing service
A buyer paying for episode editing may expect a finished audio export, a transcript, chapter notes, or promotional excerpts. Record the purchased scope at the start. If publication is a separate service, say who uploads the episode and who checks the episode title and release schedule.
The final mix should come from your editing software. Open the export and review the introduction, sponsor or announcement sections, transitions, and ending. Check any personally identifying details against the authorized brief rather than copying old metadata from a previous episode.
A fictional episode handoff
Demo order 5146 is for episode 012 of the fictional “Small Workshop Notes” podcast. The editor prepares a final listening export, a plain-text change summary, and a transcript because all three were ordered. The Shopify delivery makes those files available; it does not publish an RSS feed or schedule the episode.
| Deliverable | Purpose | Final check |
|---|---|---|
| episode-012-final-v02 | Customer's publishing input | Whole episode and ending reviewed |
| episode-012-transcript-v02 | Agreed companion text | Matches final edit |
| episode-012-handoff.txt | Explains changes and open items | Publication owner named |
Add the actual formats and export settings to the handoff. A transcript derived from an earlier edit needs reconciliation after cuts; sharing the revision number alone does not make it current.
Keep publication instructions actionable
Tell the customer which file is the publishing master, which is for reference, and whether anything remains unresolved. A useful note might say: “The agreed pause after the opening has been shortened. Please confirm the episode description before uploading through your host.” Avoid declaring the episode “live” merely because the delivery email was sent.
Package checklist
- Match episode number, title, and revision across files.
- Remove private production notes and unused interview takes.
- Check the transcript against the final audio where included.
- Measure the completed package and test its download path.
- Identify the person responsible for hosting and publication.
Use QuickAttach for the customer-specific handoff. For a large episode package, evaluate an external link and verify the recipient's access. The delivery app is not a podcast host, editor, or guarantee that a publishing platform will accept the chosen export settings.
