Ask when the deliverable becomes known
The key question is not whether the product is digital. It is whether the exact deliverable already exists when the customer buys. A standard workbook may be ready for every purchaser. A personalized assessment may depend on information collected after payment and a person’s review.
For the second case, the order can begin the work without completing delivery. QuickAttach documents order-specific file and link delivery. The merchant still needs to produce the file, choose the correct revision, and initiate the appropriate delivery action.
A decision tree for the store owner
- Is the same finished file appropriate for every buyer? If yes, investigate a shared digital-product delivery workflow.
- Does the file differ by order? If yes, maintain an order-to-deliverable record.
- Can production begin immediately? If not, define the missing input and who requests it.
- Does the output require review? Assign a release decision before the delivery step.
- Can each purchased item finish at a different time? Decide whether to use partial delivery or wait for the complete set.
A file generated quickly can still be order-specific. A file prepared manually can still be the same for everyone. Timing and personalization are separate dimensions; considering both prevents the wrong delivery architecture.
Fictional scenario: a desk-layout plan
A merchant sells a desk-layout service. The buyer supplies room dimensions after checkout; a designer prepares the plan the following day. The product description explains when the production clock starts. The internal queue distinguishes “waiting for dimensions” from “in design,” and the release record names the reviewed PDF.
Only after review does the merchant use the order delivery flow. The app is the delivery layer in this scenario. Neither the purchase nor the upload is presented as evidence that design quality has been checked.
What must be decided before taking orders
- The required inputs and an intake channel.
- A realistic production promise, including its start condition.
- The person responsible for production and release review.
- The relationship between each order item and its finished file.
- The customer message for waiting, ready, and delayed work.
- The handling of unavailable files and access questions after delivery.
Once those decisions are explicit, delivery after checkout is a manageable handoff. Without them, installing a delivery app can simply move the confusion to a different screen. Start with one synthetic order and validate the full process before expanding the catalog.
