Write from the buyer’s current location
A customer reading a delivery email needs different instructions from one already viewing an order page. Begin where they are. Avoid telling them to navigate through several screens if the supported download action is already available in front of them.
The QuickAttach walkthrough describes a delivery email and an order-status return path. Confirm the latter is enabled in your store before mentioning it. Do not invent a “My Downloads” menu label because it sounds familiar.
Three small instruction patterns
In a delivery email: Select “Download your room plan” to open the available file for order 4506. Save a copy to your device if you want to keep it for later.
Beside a verified order download: Choose the file for the item you need. The label identifies the deliverable and, where shown, its revision.
For an access problem: Contact our store support with your order number and the message you see. Please do not send passwords or post your private download link publicly.
These are fictional sample instructions. Match the action label to the actual interface and remove any reference to revision labels if your surface does not display them.
Fictional example: a first-time PDF buyer
A customer purchases a custom garden plan on order 4506. The store’s original message says only “Your asset is available.” The revised message calls it a “garden-plan PDF,” names the download action, and explains how to contact support if opening fails. The buyer does not need to understand the merchant’s production terminology.
If the deliverable is an archive or a specialist format, add the essential opening instruction. Do not claim that every device can open every format. Test the formats and devices your store intends to support, and offer an appropriate help route for the rest.
A microcopy review checklist
- Does the instruction name a real visible action?
- Can the customer identify which purchased item it refers to?
- Does it describe the actual file type or destination?
- Is the availability statement verified?
- Is the support request limited to useful information?
- Can the sentence be understood without a screenshot?
Ask a colleague unfamiliar with the process to follow the instructions using a synthetic order. Observe where they hesitate and revise the wording around that point. This is a proposed usability check, not evidence of a completed customer study.
QuickAttach support guidance emphasizes testing the customer link and external permissions. Clear instructions cannot fix inaccessible files, so verify the route before polishing the copy.
