What Download Tracking Can and Cannot Prove

Download tracking records a technical event in the delivery system. It can help support investigate access, but it does not by itself prove who read the file, understood it, accepted it, or achieved a result from it.

Describe the event before interpreting it

Support records are more useful when they state what was observed. “A download event appears in the delivery record” is narrower and more defensible than “the customer read the report.” The first describes system evidence; the second adds conclusions the event may not establish.

QuickAttach documents download tracking, and its walkthrough includes reviewing activity. Inspect the fields and event definitions actually available in the app rather than inventing a richer audit trail.

The exact meaning of an event depends on implementation. If a support decision hinges on it, ask the provider what triggers the event and what limitations apply.

Fictional example: “I could not open it”

A buyer of order 4610 reports that a PDF will not open. Support sees a download event and is tempted to reply that the file was successfully used. Instead, the agent asks what happened after the download, checks the file format and contents, and helps investigate the opening problem.

A download record and an opening failure can coexist. The event may help narrow the point of failure, but it should not be used to dismiss the customer’s description.

A careful support note template

Order reference: 4610. Intended release: plan v2. Observed record: a download event is visible for the relevant delivery. Customer reports an error when opening the saved file. Next action: verify the release file and collect the visible error wording without requesting passwords or private links.

The example is synthetic. Use only fields you actually observed, and avoid copying unnecessary identifying details into the note.

Keep business and legal conclusions separate

Download events can contribute to an operational history alongside the order, selected file, messages, and support conversation. They are not electronic signatures, proof of satisfaction, or a guarantee of an outcome in a dispute. Obtain appropriate advice when a legal conclusion is required.

Use QuickAttach support to clarify uncertain tracking behavior. The strongest record is an accurate account of observed actions and known limitations, not a broader claim that the system cannot support.
